Increase Injury Awareness.
My plan this summer is to engage in the world of medicine, with sports medicine as my focus. I plan to learn about areas of study including nutrition, injury rehabilitation and injury prevention. Throughout this summer, I will be shadowing doctors that are experts in their fields, and I hope learn from them and spread the information they give me to places that might not have access to it. For the other half of my summer, I will be volunteering a CitySquash, an educational and squash enrichment program for young people from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. In combining these two halves of my summer, I will be able to spread information from some of the best sports medicine doctors in New York City to programs that train young squash players. This will ultimately better the athletes’ experience because they will be able to learn skills that will keep them injury free and prepared for high school and collegiate squash. I also plan to post my progress on this blog to keep track of my experiences and provide this information to a wider audience.
About Me.
I am a Bowdoin College rising senior majoring in biochemistry and minoring in visual arts. I am a senior captain on Bowdoin College’s men’s squash team and through leading discussions on diversity, equity and inclusion, I am attempting to address inaccessibility within the sport. Through my work this summer, I hope to break down inequities in squash and all athletics. On Bowdoin’s campus, I am also on the Peer Health Leadership Council, a member of Creating Compassionate Leadership in Maine Boys, and also work as an Emergency Medical Technician for the town of Harpswell Neck on the weekends. I also enjoy knitting and surfing!
